If you get home half way though a program that was not setup to record, but has the catch up icon in the guide, can you start it from the beginning?

- edited 26 September 2013, 7:33AMHi Rob
I'm afraid you can't restart the show while its airing but once the catch-up icon is showing after it's finished you can of course watch the on demand version. - edited 17 November 2012, 7:27PMReminds me of my first PVR the Humax 8000T which like a VCR would not let you chase-play something while it was still recording it. Except in this modern era we are talking about the same restriction applying to online catch-up rather than local recording. Two steps forward, one step back ...
- edited 17 November 2012, 9:32PMany plans to make this possible. Just got the box today and impressed so fat
- edited 18 November 2012, 12:49PMAs I understand it, selecting a programme from an earlier point in the EPG accesses the recording from that channel's catchup service. I don't think any of the broadcasters upload programmes until after they have been shown so unless they start doing this, it will not be possible.

Hi RogerI was able to rewind a programmme last night , while it was still airing. But cannot do it today.
This only works if your YouView box was already tuned to the channel that programme was on.
I.e. you have the box on BBC One from 7.55 ready to watch the 8pm show but have to take a phone call which lasts 15 minutes. You could either pause the show or rewind to its start time when your call is finished.
But if you were watching ITV 1 and then realised at 8.05 that you had the wrong channel on you would not be able to rewind BBC One to 8.00. - edited 9 March 2017, 11:54PMYou would have been able to do it before because the box was tuned into the relevant channel when the program started. This meant the program was in the buffer and could be rewound. If you switch over to a program and then try to rewind it, it can only rewind to the point that you tuned into that channel.
- The only box that can restart a program from the beginning is the EE box as it records 24 hours of your favorite 6 channels even when the box is not turned on but the disadvantage of this box is it only stores the recordings for 24 hours
- edited 26 January 2018, 5:42PMWe got caught yesterday trying to watch the 18:30 Michael Portillo railways travelogue, and coming in at 18:45. The programme was showing the ‘Available on catchup’ icon, but clicking through on the EPG just got us into the programme at 18:45, with no ability to ‘watch from start’ that we could find.
Going out of the programme to the BBC iPlayer, we were able to choose the programme there, and choose ‘watch from start’, and so get what we wanted.
Or, I suppose, we could have waited until after 19:00, when clicking on the entry in the EPG would have taken us into the iPlayer, with ‘watch from start’ as indeed the only option, which is what we have done on earlier days, when we didn’t get in front of the TV until after 19:00 anyway. We just got caught out this time, when we got there earlier, but still not before the actual start of the programme.
I’m still pondering whether I think the box could or should have done different. Maybe not shown the catchup symbol on the EPG until after 19:00? Or offered us the choice of watch from start or watch live, and given us the iPlayer or the broadcast version accordingly?
This is a little potential anomaly that has arisen since the BBC started offering ‘watch from start’ on the iPlayer, though I have never come across it before.
Unless I’m missing a simpler workaround?0 - On bbc1 you can press the red button and the first option is to watch the current program from the start.
